Who Am I?

I'm Alistaire Everett, I usually respond to the likes of "Ali" or the lesser used "Al". I'm a third year PhD student at the University of Manchester, with my research on graph structures of finite classical groups. My supervisor is Prof. Peter Rowley. I am also a member of the Postgraduate Staff-Student Liason Committee (Representing the Second and Third year Pure Mathematics Postgraduates), and I used to be the Pure Postgraduate Seminar organiser. The seminars are now currently organised by Richard Harland (Click here for a list of seminars).

I originally applied to UMIST in 2003 (well, actually I applied to the VUM too, but UMIST was my final decision) and then the two universities merged in 2004 to form the University of Manchester. Subsequently after slaving away for 4 years, I graduated from said university with a First Class Masters Degree of Mathematics with Honours in 2007. Notable achievements include retaining scholarship status throughout all four years of my undergraduate degree, and winning the course prize for ex-UMIST students (getting the best overall mark out of all ex-UMIST MMath students... OK, there were only 3 of us, but still an achievement).

My other interests include rock climbing, acrobatics gymnastics, yoga, darts and hill walking. I coach every Saturday and Sunday at an acrobatics club in Ashton-In-Makerfield, Wigan. Surprisingly enough, I hold three coaching qualifications for Gymnastics: Trampoline Coach, General Gymnastics Club Coach, Level 4 Acrobatics Gymnastics Coach and I am also a Club Level Acrobatics Judge. I try to go climbing once a week, and I partake in a Yoga class every Thursday (run by Dr. Louise Walker). If the weather is nice, I like to go walking in the Peak District, and I also enjoy playing guitar and darts to unwind (not at the same time, mind).
